It often delights me as to how Saturn and Venus seem like an odd match, yet they are often considered to be Friends in Astrology. Saturn brings arduous experiences in life which are amplified by difficult aspects to other placements, so it can be daunting when we see Venus in a particularly tense aspect like Opposition, Square, Inconjunct/Quincunx & a bit of Conjunction (of all, much less) with Saturn. 

Saturn being the Planet of maturity, constraints & long-term rewards; staying grounded, humble & devoted becomes the only way one can overcome the life lessons that he brings. Whereas Venus urges us to take things slow, enjoy the sweetness & comforts of life. These two though with different ways of expressing themselves, have quite a lot in common, making their bond an odd-yet-strong one. 

In tense aspects, more notably in Oppositions & Squares, you often see how it becomes harder to access your natural Venusian powers. Since Saturn tends to overpower Venus (or any other placement for that matter) bringing a sense of extreme control over its functions. This can be especially true if Venus is in Signs + Houses of :

Scorpio + 8H, Aries + 1H, Virgo + 6H

and if Saturn is in the Signs + Houses of :

Aries + 1H, Cancer + 4H, Leo + 5H

where they are both in a difficult position hence exaggerating the negative impacts caused on each other. On the other hand, if Venus & Saturn are (both or either) in their most favored positions, one can have an easier time balancing the effects of the tense aspects.

Romance can be a touchy subject due to past trauma, and Yes, I mean to be that dramatic. Hence, your self-respect & self-love will usually have to be weighed against your love & desire for the relationship, to determine if the person is worth all the devotion, effort & wait or is it all just a waste of time.

Also, generally time apart from your partner can be beneficial for the both of you.
